"Write it like a movie. Don't write it like a book."
Authors have an interesting position that I feel most don't take advantage of. A lot of people write books like books. Long winded. Overly descriptive. Back and forth conversation that can sometimes be utterly dull.
There's nothing wrong with these things in theory. People will read this. People will like this. But the snappier content is, the more streamlined the scenes are. One, after the other. after the other can really help your story rise like cream.
Writers really have no limitations. They may not have visuals, but they can transition scenes any time they want. it doesn't have to be romantic. It can be fierce. It can be punctual.
You want pacing in your book. As Abbie Emmons says in one of her writing videos "People read at the pace that you write it." Be mindful of scenes and how long they're dragging on. Conversations. Tag lines. Just keep it in mind, that's all I'm trying to say.
