Any color can go together.

This is a very old picture I colored in 2009. I didn't draw the lineart, but it's still one of my strongest pieces. In the sense, that it showed something interesting about color theory. Look at all the colors in this picture. All of them go well together despite there being portions of it being an entire rainbow--if not, throughout whole piece.

Strong purples, strong greens, and strong beige. Why/how does this happen? It's harmony. An illusion to the eye. If you put one color to help transition the other two, it will trick your eyes into making said color agreeable.

I have an example. I was playing around with Gacha Life 2 and was allowed to add colors to both the shading, the base color, and the lines. I made myself, and this is how I did.

Look at the dress. Pink and red. How could you put these colors together without clashing? One trick is the saturation of both colors. They're both slightly pale. But the real winner? The purple lines. It harmonized and bridged the gap between the two. Because purple leans towards both colors, pink and red, it settled the resistance.

One of my favorite things about art is finding rules that can be so easily broken. What makes something creative? Truly speaking? Every time I can find something to help a beginner artist win is a happy occasion for me. So go on, make your neon techno characters. Just remember this little hint to make professionals' heads roll.
